GENERAL TIDBITS OF ETIQUETTE
Good manners touches every aspect of our lives.
Always be on time.
Never use toothpicks at the table.
Eat from the outside in.
Drink bottom up.
Always place napkin on lap. Never flag wave your napkin.
Never wipe your nose with cloth napkin.
Put your utensil down when taking a drink. Place the utensil across the plate.
Never swing utensil around.
When leaving the table place napkin unfolded on the table.
When leaving the table but returning, place napkin folded in chair.
Place utensils on plate when finished in a 12 o’clock position.
Never place utensil back on table after using.
Don’t try to clear the table and stack plates; the waiter/server will do this.
Carefully watch guest, when plate empty, remove it.
Introduction; always say the oldest person name first, or most important person or woman’s name first.
Sit straight in you chair with your back against the back of the chair.
Walk with small steps – about the size of your shoe.
Hold head up and straight. Look others in the eyes.
Careful with longer table clothes.
Always wash hands and see that hair isn’t in face.
Place unused hand in your lap.
Watch the hostess, never do anything or touch anything until she does.
Remember as a hostess, guest are watching you.
Bread and butter plate is always on the left.
Bread should be pinched in bites then buttered.
It is proper for all to extend the hand in greeting. Hand shakes should be firm for all.
